Ken Stafford airs his views in Accountancy on merger

I think the merger's a good thing. I don't know why CIMA decided against it but I was quite surprised - I would have thought they would have jumped at the chance. I think it's a good thing for the profession. The bigger we are, the more influence we'll have.

I will vote in favour and I hope the merger goes through but I have a strange feeling it might not because there are a lot of older accountants around who are set in their ways.

If we do merge with another body, I would like the institute to lobby against and stamp out the practice of people calling themselves and working as accountants when they aren't actually qualified.
